Odd, bird-legged creatures have been sighted and recorded by individuals and civilizations across the entire world and the long span of history, but very little is actually known about them. Various peoples refer to them as benign spirits, clockwork assassins, or apparitions that haunt weary travelers. All but a handful of these accounts can be dismissed as circumstantial, fanciful, and apocryphal.

What we know for certain is that these creatures call themselves Wanderers, can easily live for two or three centuries, and have no identifiable genders. How they reproduce is likely to remain a mystery.

Legends of a secret base or stronghold to which all Wanderers belong are questionable. On one hand, they are too widespread to be dismissed as entirely false; on the other, no such place has ever been discovered.

Judging from the most recent recorded encounters, Wanderers are not dangerous - though one can never be too careful.
